SiteDiet

From existing website to lighter website.

SiteDiet is deliberately careful. We examine first, preserve before changing anything, simplify only where it makes sense, test thoroughly, and launch only after approval.

Examine before prescribing

We start by understanding the website you already have. We look at how it has been built, what technology it uses, what it needs to do for your business and where unnecessary weight or complexity may have accumulated. Performance is important, but it isn't the only consideration. We also look at content, functionality and anything the website depends upon. This helps us decide whether a lightweight static conversion is appropriate or whether optimisation of the existing platform would be the better treatment.

Preserve what matters

Before making significant changes, we identify and preserve the things that already matter to your website and your visitors. That includes written content, imagery, important URLs, SEO information and essential functionality. We don't believe making a website lighter should mean carelessly stripping away things that are doing a useful job. The aim is to remove unnecessary weight while protecting the content, functionality and search visibility the existing website has built up. In short - keep what works, understand what matters and only remove what the website doesn't genuinely need.

Build separately

Your existing website doesn't need to become a building site while we work. Where we're creating a lightweight replacement, the new version is developed separately while the current website remains online. This gives us a safe environment in which to recreate, simplify and improve the site without disrupting the live version your customers are using. You'll be able to review the new website before anything changes publicly, giving us plenty of opportunity to make adjustments and make sure everything looks and behaves as it should.

Test, refine, approve

Once the new version is taking shape, we test it carefully across different screen sizes and devices. We check navigation, links, forms, responsive behaviour and important functionality, alongside performance, accessibility and SEO considerations. This is also where the finer details are refined and any issues discovered during testing are corrected. Most importantly, you get the opportunity to review the finished website yourself. Nothing replaces your existing website simply because we've finished building it - the new version only moves forward once you're happy with the result.

Launch the approved files

Once everything has been tested and you've approved the new website, we prepare the finished files for launch. The version you've reviewed is the version that goes live - not a different rebuild or an approximation of what you approved. We take care of the technical transition, including the hosting and deployment considerations relevant to the project, and carry out checks after launch to make sure everything is working correctly. The aim is a controlled changeover with as little disruption as possible, leaving you with a lighter, cleaner website ready to get on with its job.
