SiteDiet

Evidence before promises.

Our first full SiteDiet pilot was Garden Machinery Services. The objective wasn't to redesign the business out of recognition — it was to preserve what worked and remove unnecessary overhead.

Garden Machinery Services

Garden Machinery Services is an established local business specialising in the repair and servicing of horticultural equipment. Its existing website was built with WordPress and Elementor and, although the content and overall design were still doing their job, the technology behind it had become heavier than the business actually needed. SiteDiet captured and rebuilt the website as a lightweight static site, carefully preserving the familiar content, important URLs, imagery and functionality. The new version was refined and tested locally, approved by the client and then deployed using GitHub and Cloudflare Pages.

Performance

The improvement came from changing what was underneath the website rather than simply adding another optimisation plugin. Rebuilding the site as lightweight HTML, CSS and JavaScript removed much of the unnecessary machinery associated with the previous WordPress installation and page builder. The result was a noticeably leaner website with a substantial improvement in measured performance, particularly on mobile. Just as importantly, those gains were achieved without stripping away the content, functionality or familiar appearance the client wanted to keep. Performance results will naturally vary from one website to another.

The bigger result

Speed was only part of the outcome. The finished website no longer relies on WordPress, a database, a page builder or a collection of plugins to deliver what is essentially a straightforward business website. That means fewer moving parts, fewer routine software updates and a simpler hosting setup, while the client retains the website their customers already recognise. The project also demonstrated the wider SiteDiet approach in practice - preserve what is valuable, remove what is unnecessary and choose technology that suits what the website genuinely needs to do.
